It is simply the name of the website. In reality, every website has an ‘IP Address like 74.125. 239.35. No one would remember 74.125. 239.35 but google.com is easy to remember
How much does a Domain Name cost?

How can I pick a good Domain Name for my business?

Do I need a Domain Name for my website?

Should I use .com or .com.au for my website?
We recommend that you use both!
- If you are an Australian business, primarily with Australian clients, the .com.au may be a better choice
- If your brand is global, .com would be the best choice?
But you said to use both?
If, for example, you had an Australian business called ‘Cats and Dogs’.
- Build your website on catsanddogs.com.au
- Buy catsanddogs.com and the set up a redirection so anyone you types in catsanddogs.com or catsanddogs.com.au will find your site
Why do this?
This is all about insurance. Imagine if you built your business on catsanddogs.com.au and a competitor built their site on catsanddogs.com. What a mess!
